Wonder Woman Needs Bark Off

I wondered how long this would take until we got our first major dog barking court case after the advent of the Bark Off Dog Silencer. It really didn't take long.

It's pretty funny that with all her Super Powers Wonder Woman herself, Linda Carter, couldn't keep her dog quiet. I don't mean to make fun of the situation but it is great example of how dog barking and the annoyances it causes can escalate and wind up in a courtroom.

Carter has denied a charge from her neighbors that she allowed her dog's barking to disturb her neighbors in her Maryland community. But a judge from Montgomery County District Court found Lind Carter not guilty of the infraction.

Her neighbor though, the annoyed Chrissellene Petropoulos said she was disturbed all hours by Wonder Woman's Lab who wouldn't stop barking. She claims to have sent emails to no avail so wound up calling animal services.

WASHINGTON — The actress who played Wonder Woman on TV in the 1970s has deflected a charge that she allowed her dog's barking to disturb neighbors in an upscale Maryland community outside Washington. A Montgomery County District Court judge found Lynda Carter Altman not guilty last week of the municipal infraction.

Neighbor Chrissellene Petropoulos says she was disturbed at all hours by barking from Altman's Labrador retriever. Petropoulos said she tried calling and e-mailing Altman to ask her to bring her dog inside, and eventually called animal services.

The case was eventually dismissed because there was know hard proof that there was any wrong doing. It was a "he barked, she said" type of case.

We all no Wonder Woman has super powers and if a dog is bothering her she can just get into her invisible jet and fly away, but as a super nothing I can relate to Petropoulos and I feel for her.  You don't start writing emails and ending up in court unless you can't find a way to stop dog barking. If it was minor, it probably would have been no big deal. So suspect this dog got her every last nerve as it would a lot of people who have to love next door to other super heroes like Batman, Spiderman or Kobe Bryant.

So whats the solution when the Judge is obviously on the take? Here's something you don't see every day. An as seen on TV product which gets a customer that's stellar. I love bark off and apparently I'm not the only one. We know it might not work for every dog, but those whose dogs react to the ultrasonic signal love the results. Unlike me, most people don’t have twenty-one dogs running around on their property but like me, most people who own dogs know how obnoxious loud barking can be. At first we would try using spray bottles but if we became absent minded and left the bottle(s) where the dogs could reach, that would be the end of the bottle(s). Aside from yelling or shushing them, there really wasn’t anything we thought we could do about it. We eventually just let them be and became used to it. Except when guests came over, the volume of their barking seemed to go up many notches. It is very embarrassing when you have to practically yell at your house guest just to hear what they’re saying for the first five to ten minutes of their visit.

The first time I saw a Bark Off commercial, I was sitting around watching late night television with my best friend. When the commercial was almost over her said, “What do you think of that?” I laughed and replied, “I don’t know…I doubt it really works.” He laughed with me and added, “For ten dollars? It sure as hell isn’t going to work.”

It wasn’t hard to put the commercial into the back of my mind and practically forget about it. About a week ago while I was shopping with my mom, she stopped to look at a display that had only As Seen on TV items. After browsing for a while, she came upon Bark Off and she exclaimed, “Hey! Do you think this will work?” I just shrugged but said she could get it if she wanted.

We ended up at my grandma’s house and instantly decided to try it on her dogs since we were there. Of course we had to wait for them to bark but that wasn’t too hard, they bark at anybody and everybody who walks by the house. We turned it on and immediately they went quiet. Two of them decided to go for a couple test barks. After the first bark, they paused to listen for the noise they had heard. Then they barked again and then paused to listen once more. That’s all it took for them to remain quiet for a few hours. Later when they forgot about it and got excited over someone jogging down the street, we turned it on again. Once again they immediately stopped barking to try to find the high frequency that rang out. This time they didn’t test it, they just silently watched the guy go past that house.

When we got home and greeted our twenty-one dogs, we were of course very excited and nervous about trying it out. After all, our logic tells us that even though dogs’ ears are very sensitive they couldn’t possibly hear the Bark Off when ALL of them are barking at once. To our amazement, when the opportunity struck, it completely worked.

Bark Off is definitely a product worth buying. Especially since the price is so affordable right now.

Do Dog Silencers Really Work ?

I had never really thought about using a dog silencer before. In fact I never even knew such a thing existed. I only wished I could stop my neighbor's dog from ruining my life. Well, the night part anyway. So as I was reading some Pet magazine in the checkout line of my local pet superstore, I came across and article filled with solutions. I'll admit right now that I didn't buy the magazine, but I my interest was peaked and I began to research a way to stop dog barking online.

For the most part my own dog is relatively well behaved and doesn't bark a whole lot. Only, when company comes or the kids get him riled up but my neighbor's dog is a different story. She's a great dog but my bedroom window happens to be very close to my property line and seems even closer to the neighbors patio where the dog roams late at night. I know dog barking is instinctual but getting a break once in awhile would be incredible.

Most dog barking stems from a desire to communicate. We have all heard the heroic stories of dogs saving people by alerting them to danger or trouble and we surely don't want to stifle that behavior so what is the best approach?

The first thing we thing of as a dog silencer is the good old shock collar. I'm not a fan of this at all because not only is a bit inhumane, it's based on negative reinforcement and that can't be good for aggressive dogs. The collars deliver an electrical pulse when the owner deems it necessary and hopefully the dog will learn to associate the little blast with the unwanted behavior. It may work, but keep in mind that your isn't going to like it.

Next is the dog whistle. These things are pretty popular for all types of training. The frequency of the whistle annoy the dog enough to pay attention to the trainer and hopefully over time will learn to associate the sound with the command to stop the behavior. This is great but training can be tough and what about the neighbor's dog that I can't train?

This leads me to training in general. There are lots of successful training methods and several different ways to teach commands to your dog. One of the most popular is hand signals. It might take a while with this type of training as well, but judging by its popularity on all the television shows it probably works. But again, we are talking about time, most likely some significant money for classes and of course what about dogs that are not our own.

So the solution may just be these ultrasonic dog silencers we are starting to see advertised on late night television. There are many different brands and technologies floating around but the ones that interest me are the ones that you just switch on and your dog stops barking.

In a perfect world they would work as follows. Switch on the device and when your dog barks some type of ultrasonic wave is emitted which makes the dog stop barking. End of story. But the reason why it works is actually pretty clever. The theory is that the dog, while barking, is focused on some stimulus and if their attention can be diverted away, they will forget about it and the barking will stop. This seems plausible to me but does it work.

The jury is still out on these devices mainly because each dog is different. Some are passive, some aggressive, some vocal, some just plain uncontrollable so the best advice is to try. There are devices out there which sell for around $100 and there are both good and bad reviews on them. Others, like bark off, sell for just $10 so testing it out on your dog will require no significant investment.

In my case the bark off works great on my dog, which was never really the problem, but doesn't seem to affect my neighbor's dog. I suspect that the dog wanders in and out of range and the fact that the bark off is by my bed inside my house might have a lot to do with it.

So the good news for those suffering from annoying dog barking is that there are several methods to try and control it. If you don't have time to train your dog or don't have access to the neighbor's dog, you may want to try some type of dog silencer.

Talk About Noisy Neighbors

Here's a Bark Off moment that was surely missed. I found this annoying story in the news and it made me think that if Bark Off works it could have saved a lot of money and angst.

Perhaps they were keeping a watch out for angry neighbours. Or maybe they were just trying to get some peace and quiet from their brothers and sisters.

Either way, this trio of boxers were on hand to greet neighbours who went round to complain about the noise from Mark McGowan and Sam Watkins's dogs.The animals had made their neighbours' lives a 'living hell' with their constant barking at their home in Southampton.

McGowan and Watkins have been hit with a £1,900 fine after council officers found the animals were barking an astonishing 800 times an hour.The couple, who breed boxers and bulldogs at their three-bedroom detached home, were convicted of repeatedly breaching a noise abatement notice.

The pair failed to turn up to Monday's hearing at Southampton magistrates court, where it was ruled the pack of boxers and bulldogs they keep at their home were unacceptably noisy. The court heard how council environmental health officers made notes of their incessant barking, yapping and whining during various visits to neighbours' houses.

Council officers recorded 805 barks during one hour-long visit.A number made complaints to the council and kept detailed diaries of the barking. They also signed a petition.

Neighbours said McGowan started keeping dogs about seven years ago and the noise problem had escalated since then. They said he had up to 17 dogs, and the back garden of his property was filled with cages for them. Neighbour Ian Murray, 47, said: 'The barking is absolutely horrendous. We cannot use our garden.

'And it's not just the noise, the smell is terrible. It's making our lives a living hell.'

Mr Murray, who is a director of an industrial noise reduction company, and his wife Kerry said their young children were even afraid of going outside. The problem became so bad Southampton Itchen MP John Denham took up their case and held a meeting with Southampton City Council noise chiefs to press them to take action.

Council animal welfare officers visited McGowan's home but found no offences had been committed. The RSPCA was also informed.The couple were charged with five breaches of a noise abatement notice, which was issued three years ago. But they failed to show up at the court after asking the council prosecutor to apply for an adjournment on their behalf.

However, magistrates decided to go ahead with the hearing. Handing out fines totalling £950 each, chairman of the bench Merrielle Billington said: 'It's clear the dogs' barking is totally unacceptable.'

The couple run a website dedicated to their dogs and their breeding programme. In recent years they have advertised puppies for sale and offer the services of their dogs for stud.

Their boxer dogs have been listed for up to £800 - although neither have applied for a breeder's licence. McGowan, who claims on the website to be a former grocery manager, refused to comment when contacted at his home. Watkins was unavailable for comment.

Southampton City Council's environment boss, Councillor Matt Dean said: 'Noisy neighbours can cause untold misery for residents and can have a real impact on people's quality of life. Bark Off is something that you have probably seen lately on the late-night infomercials. It's a device that you activated when your dog is barking. The ultrasonic signal is detected by the dog, but not by humans.
When researching the various results and comments that folks are having with Bark Off,  It seemed the pattern was that most people did have good results with Bark Off, using it when their dog or dogs started barking and it in fact did result in the dog stopping his barking right there on the spot.
Of course, not everyone had the same wonderfully positive experience. A few folks had trouble getting it to work at all, having inserted batteries and then having nothing occur. Those guys had to then contact the company and try to get their units replaced. The customer service lines do seem to be a bit on the tedious side, with wait times and menus to get through. There is of course also the cost of shipping the unit back. After having paid $6.99 for shipping and handling, the unit only sells for $10, so that’s all you would get back. You could find an inexpensive way to ship it back for a few dollars, and then get your $10 back, but you’d still be out close to $10 when all is said and done.
Well, we all know how that works — offers like this are often padded in the shipping and handling costs so fewer people will bother to try to get their $10 back. Personally, if bark off didn’t work for me, I would return it and see it through even if it wound up costing me a little money.
Other complaints that I found were that the people were able to hear it themselves — i.e. it wasn’t only audible to dogs. That seems to be a small minority, however.
The vast majority of reviews I ran into were positive, including some dog trainers in the mix. Let’s face it, if the product was a total scam and bust and never worked in the first place, the bark off people would be so inundated with complaints and investigations that it would not have made any sense to create the infomercials and manufacture the products in the first place. So, using a little common sense, your odds are pretty good that Bark Off will work for you.

Ever wonder if Bark Off works? Well you aren't the only one. The good news is that the Bark Off reviews by real people are starting to roll in on this very intriguing As On TV Product.  For example, one viewer of WGRZ in Buffalo named Connie wanted the station to do a review of Bark Off. The station agreed and actually asked Connie to do the honors.

Connie was ready to help with this test. With three barking little dogs, she wasn't even able to have a conversation when her dogs got going. So, we brought the product over and she gave it a shot. The product works on one 9V battery. You simply turn it on and it sends out an ultrasonic signal that is inaudable to humans. Our tester noticed a difference right away. The dogs were NOT barking.

We left the product with Connie and she kept an eye on her dogs and then sent us an email.  She said, "The Bark Buster is working wonderfully!  It was working so well with my dogs I went to my neighbors and we tried it on her dog. Absolute silence from him too! I would definitely give it a "2 thumbs up! "

Connie did have one issue with the product... and it's a good one. Connie said there are times you would like the dogs to bark... especially at night. So, she is going to turn it off when she goes to bed so the dogs can stick to their security detail.

Bark Off is definitely one of the As Seen On TV pet products which makes you want to whip out your credit card and buy it on the spot, but what exactly is it and is whatever it is worth it? Sometimes It's tough to figure out if these As Seen On TV products we see actually work or if they are simply just junk. This one however, is getting very popular so it is really worth a look.

Bark Off is essentially a handy little device which when activated will silence your dog, or your neighbors dog and allow you to live a peaceful and easy existence in quiet. Well that's supposed to be what happens. But does it?

The theory is that when a dog is barking, he or she has all their attention focused on whatever it is that's making them bark. If something can interrupt their attention, they will quickly forget about what they were barking about and stop. The Bark Off intends to interrupt the dog's barking pattern by forcing them to focus on the sound created by the ultrasonic wave. It's really that simple.

Now you may be thinking about what happens when you want your dog to bark? Well, the unit is only activated when when the power switch is turned on. There is plenty of time to train the dog through normal training techniques to develop the desired behavior you want to your dog to have. Dog training can be difficult and I was never really able to get my yapper to speak on command or quiet down on command, but it is possible. The act of barking will illicit the ultrasonic wave but if I say a command at the same time, perhaps my dog will learn to associate my command with the irritating pulse he receives when I give the command. It's pretty much the same type of behavioral training we all try to use but the Bark Off is the ultimate aid.

But for the most part, the bark off is there to give me some peace and quiet and so far so good. I have tested the limits of it's range but it works inside my small home just fine. My only complaint is that if the unit is left on, the batteries drain rather quickly but the price of the product itself is unbeatable.

If you are not ready to take the plunge and buy Bark Off while it is still new and basically untested, I completely understand. It is always prudent to wait for more information to come out about products and let the bugs be fixed.

The Bark Off Dog Barking Control device is making quite a stir these days. It's obviously one of the most successful As Seen On TV Store items to come out in 2010 but does it work? Well first, perhaps I should explain what it is intended to do.

The Bark Off is an apparent solution to the annoying problem of dog barking. We've all been faced with this at one time or another and it can be excruciating. You know, you are trying to sleep and the neighbor's dog is barking all night, or you're trying to watch TV and you can't seem to quiet your dog.

Some dog barking is a really great thing. It's an obvious deterrent to for criminals and can alert you to all types of dangers, but what do you when you just don't want to hear it anymore? Or better yet when you can't stand it anymore. Some type of dog barking control is in order, but which one?

Shock collars seem inhumane and training a dog not to bark can be difficult. Even if you are successful you might risk the dog's understanding of when to bark at the sign of trouble. After all, barking is an instinctual way for out dogs to communicate with us and stifling that might be a bad thing.

So the Bark Off becomes an interesting option because of how it works. Basically, when turned on it emits a harmless ultrasonic wave that is not audible to humans but quickly gets the dog's attention.

Whenever your dog begins to yap, the unit is activated and the ultrasonic wave is emitted. It does no harm to the dog and simply interrupts the dog's barking pattern. The theory is that if you can distract the dog's attention from whatever the cause of its barking is, then it will stop. The ultrasonic wave just commands the dog's attention and they forget what got them barking in the first place.

In theory this is an awesome idea, but in practice it might prove difficult. If the Bark Off really works, I for one want to know about it because it could be the perfect solution to my dog barking issues.

My particular problem involves a neighbor's dog. It's really a great dog but he loves to bark late at night and although my neighbor's say they try to control it, it's become a nuisance for everyone. Unfortunately, the area the dog likes to hang out is literally 10 feet from my bedroom window. The Bark Off is supposed to work at a decent distance so theoretically I could place the unit by my bed and flip it on at night. If it's successful, then the dog will either stay quiet or move somewhere else and my problem will be solved.

Hopefully, this little invention will put an end to the annoying yapping of our little friends but in my opinion the jury is still out. It's tough to imagine that a simple little contraption like this could be the answer but sometimes the solutions to some of our biggest problems are really easy.

The Bark Off commercial is hilarious. But, the dogs' annoying barking in this romp remind me of the problems I have with dog barking in my own life. I'm sure we all have a dog around that just seems to bother us with their yapping but what can we do about it really?

According to the bark off commercial, we can just flip a switch and live in peace. I don't know if it could really be that simple but if it works I'm going to be a huge fan and hope the inventor collects a Nobel Prize.

It supposedly works like this. When a nearby dog begins to bark, the Bark Off unit will emit and ultrasonic wave that cannot be heard by humans, but will compel the dog to stop barking.

This ultrasonic wave is not harmful to the dog and does nothing more than get the dog's attention. The theory is that the dog will be interrupted by the wave and stop paying attention to whatever the it was barking at.

The theory seems to make sense. Our dogs have a very active attention span and if they can forget about whatever it is they are barking at and focus on the bark off, then perhaps we have a solution.

The jury is still out on the Bark Off but I for one and hoping for the best.

So the Bark Off commercial has become a huge hit with it's annoying dogs yapping away. Ellen Degeneres made a bit of fun of Bark Off on her show as she does with many other As Seen On TV products, I've seen a bunch of websites devoted to it, but have yet to find out if it really works for people.

So what's the deal? Does bark off work you? Is Bark Off humane like it claims in the advertisement. Let's get some dialogue going about this product because the people want to know.

Bark Off is a massive hit. Especially since Bark Off was mentioned on Ellen, the searches for Bark Off on the internet have been through the rough. The problem is that it is so new, it's tough to find feedback from people who have used it.

The Bark Off commercial, though annoying, shows a lot of potential for the product and the concept is pretty brilliant. I for one have had some horrible experiences with Dog Barking. I've lost a lot of sleep in the past due to the excessive yapping of a neighbors dog and have even had problems with my own puppy.

The Bark Off appears to be humane, but how can I really know that? If it works well then I think we'll hear a lot more about it in the future but for now we have to wait for "jury" to return its decision. I'm hoping for the best on this one and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The first thing I noticed when researching Bark Off is that it is not a bark collar. For me this was great news because I hate those things. But if it's not a Bark Collar then what is it?

The Bark Off is a completely different method of Dog Barking Control and in theory it is a great alternative to traditional methods.
